Dora the Explorer Dora Save the Mermaids

Out of all the Dora the Explorer video games I have seen Dora the Explorer Dora Saves the Mermaids comes the closest to a television (editor: or DVD) episode. There is a downside to that, and that goes to the length of time it takes to go from start to finish. Dora gets to help the mermaids by cleaning garbage off the beach, counting seashells and calling out to dolphins. The dolphins are a wonderful help to Dora and Boots in their adventure. This is the other game from 2K Play, and it so great to see games like this one coming to market.

The visual aspects in Dora the Explorer Dora Saves the Mermaids looks a lot like the cartoon series on Nick Jr. Parents, and children will recognize all of the characters, and animals used throughout. Expect some light fantasy imagination in regards to fictional characters like Mermaids. I do not see this as bad, but feel it is important for those who are offended by such material. There is no violence, and a lot of wonderful learning lessons.

The voices sound exactly like the show, and that is a true testament to the quality of this title. The music is also from the show, so children will feel right at home. There are no offensive sounds in Dora the Explorer Dora Saves the Mermaids.

There are enough preschool educational mini games to keep most kids busy for awhile. The one caveat to that is, as long as they do not get bored with it. You should know your children well enough to know if that will be a problem or not. Only one child can play this game at a time, so there is an opportunity to teach sharing. If you let your preschooler use the Nintendo DS then this game can be worth the money.

Technology is amazing, and Dora the Explorer Dora Saves the Mermaids really exhibits that. There are so many really fun activities to perform and they all control as they should. The game gives the child verbal instructions, then they are told when they did it right, and when they need to try again. The mini games are pretty easy, but then I am an adult. I let my children try it out, and they both were able to complete the tasks.

The best thing about Family Friendly Gaming is how we report on good, quality, and clean video games like Dora the Explorer Dora Saves the Mermaids. There is more than enough media coverage on the bad games, and consequences associated with them. Not only does there need to be more games like this one, but there also needs to be more reporting in the rest of the media about this game. Hopefully they will follow Family Friendly Gaming, and soon.
