ZJ The Ball

Breakthrough Gaming bounced upon the video game scene with ZJ the Ball. This quirky, artistic, little title really surprised us here at Family Friendly Gaming. The main character ZJ is a ball. He moves throughout the levels by bouncing. Unless you let ZJ sit long enough, (to bounce himself to stop) he is in perpetual motion. The excitement this adds to this game is fresh, and innovative. The storyline is a little quirky, as ZJ goes out on a search for some flowers for his mother. Along the way he meets a robot, whose job is to make ZJ play little mini-games, in order to progress. Amazingly, ZJ winds up helping out the robot, and never does find the flowers.

The graphics in this game are extremely artistic. There are three camps when it comes to the art work used in this game: those that love it, those that hate it, and those that are indifferent to it. Personally, this reviewer appreciated the art work in this game, and a company that is willing to go in a different direction than the industry. The sounds in this game are excellent, and the music was perfectly exceptional. There is some replay in this game, but not a whole lot. The main reason to replay is to get the code (once all coins have been collected in the game). This code will be used to unlock special "stuff" in the sequel. The game's ending sequence strongly suggest the sequel. The other reason to replay ZJ the Ball is the fun involved in playing the game. The innovative gameplay is excellent. The only draw back is the length of this game, as it is on the short side. Sadly, there is not a lot of extras in this game. There are coins hidden in different places. This is an area the developer can improve on, in the sequel.

All of this game is perfectly family friendly. It does not have a rating, but in all honesty, it does not need one. There is no violence in this game. All of the dialog is very family friendly, and it is friendly to believers in Jesus Christ. It is obvious that the developers are Christians, and this game is a shining example of that.

Breakthrough Gaming has kept their costs low by producing the game CD, and a small page of instructions only. There is no CD case included. At the bare bones price of $9.95, this game can be purchased from their web site. It is really nice to find out about games like this one, that are family friendly, believer friendly, and fun. This reviewer is thankful that Breakthrough Gaming took the time to create this game. We give this game a recommendation.
