Pokemon Trozei
SCORE: 91
There are few franchises that elicit a gung-ho happy response, or a
staunch opposition response. Pokemon is one such franchise. People
either are into Pokemon, or against it. There is no dispute that the
Pokemon franchise has been very financially successful in just a decade,
with very few games released. Pokemon Trozei! is a puzzle game where the
faces of different Pokemon need to be lined up in a column, or row of
four or more. Doing so is what the game describes as a trozei (hence
that part of the game). Once that happens then other Pokemon that are
less than four can be trozeid as well. The action can get rather hectic
as Pokemon will attach to one another, and vanish. Once the trozei is
over with, then Pokemon will start raining from the ceiling. Letting
them accumulate too high will mean game over. Essentially the faster the
player is at pattern matching the better said player will do.
Graphically Pokemon Trozei! is very bright and colorful. The detail
of the faces of the Pokemon is well done. During boss battles, the
Pokemon can be turned into silhouettes (meaning completely black).
Thankfully that does not last long usually, and getting a trozei ended
it as well. The cut scenes in adventure mode which told the story was a
nice little anime style that worked well.
The sounds in this game are very crisp, and clear. When the player is
in danger of losing in a level, the music changes tempo to warn the
player of imminent doom. This music caused this reviewer to quicken the
pace. The sounds work very well in Pokemon Trozei! The normal music is
also nice, and when a level would be completed, I would sometimes sigh
that it would end (to congratulate me on successful completion).
Nintendo has quite the history of doing a good job in the
replay/extras department. Pokemon Trozei! is no exception. They know the
formula to creating challenging games that make the gamer want to come
back for more (even if the level ended in frustration). There are plenty
of different modes, along with 380 different Pokemon tokens that can be
unearthed in order to complete the Trozei list. If there are multiple
Nintendo DS's, and game cartridges then more than one player can compete
against one another. This reviewer feels that this game is definitely
worth the money. The only possible concern is if you have a problem with
video game addiction; if that is the case then you may want to pass on
this game.
The touch screen works beautifully for this game. The stylus
interface really improves upon the button controls. The way the Pokemon
drop is completely random, which means sometimes things fall your way,
and other times it takes work to survive (especially against the
bosses). I found this game to be a blast to play, and sighed happily
once I had beaten it. Pokemon Trozei! is a drastic improvement upon the
Bejeweled puzzle game concept. Being able to make moves without that
move instantly matching adds a lot of gameplay.
The adventure mode is about an evil organization that are stealing
Pokemon in order to use them to power up a weapon. The player is part of
a group (think CIA) that is working to stop this organization. This game
teaches pattern recognition, and matching. This is the kind of game this
reviewer would recommend to a pastor. This is also the kind of game that
is safe for the entire family. There needs to be more games like this
that assist in quick thinking.
