World Championship Games
World Championship Games is one of those Nintendo DS games that I am very happy to be writing about. The graphics may not be the greatest, but the implementation of the Olympic style games is top notch. Tapping where each foot steps while a runner is running has to be the best use of the Nintendo DS in terms of this style of game that I have ever seen. The Game Factory certainly knows what they are doing with World Championship Games. I will be waiting as patiently as I can for March 10, 2009. Or as soon as I find out the production copy of this Nintendo DS has made it into the Family Friendly Gaming offices. I am surprised they were able to cram this much into one small cartridge.
The graphical models of the characters is something I hope is improved in the final release, however the game play screens look just fine. The backgrounds are also decent in this sports simulation title. The artistic elements of the presentation of this game shows some real talent too.
What good is a sports game if you can't play with others? The Game Factory has us covered there as well with Nintendo WFC, Multi-card and single console 'pass around' modes for 2-4 players. The only thing not included is single card play. I have had to pass around Gameboy Advances before, so sharing with friends and family has never been a problem for me. If it is for you, then look at it as an opportunity.
The developer The Code Monkeys Ltd has captured my attention, and I hope they continue to hone their game making skills in the near future. World Championship Games has the ability to go for the gold, and win one for the Gipper. - Sam
