Trackmania

Trackmania

I was very excited to receive an early copy of Trackmania DS from Atlus. This is one of the perks of Family Friendly Gaming, and I will be honest it is very cool to see games like this over a month before the general public. Not only see, but get to play. The racing action itself makes me think of a Hot Wheels kind of a game. The ability to build your very own race tracks, and the insane amount of options makes Trackmania DS so much more. What good is making an intense race track if you are the only one to see it? Atlus has you covered there as well with a dizzying array of multiplayer modes. One of my personal favorites is single card download play. That is right if you have this game, and want to play with a friend - you can. No need for both ya'll to have a copy of the game.

I can see Trackmania DS becoming an instant classic in the year of our Lord 2009. What makes Trackmania DS so interesting to us at Family Friendly Gaming is Atlus is not known for this kind of a video game. So I did a double take to make sure I had the publisher right. Sure enough it is Atlus, and this is very encouraging. It is great to see a publisher like them spread their wings, and actively fly towards families.

For those that are not as interested in being creative with building their very own race tracks let me assure you for a bit. Trackmania DS comes with over one hundred race tracks. Few racing games have that many, let alone a racing game on the Nintendo DS. I do have to admit some of the race tracks are short, and others are a little confusing (especially when going really fast). The faster a race is completed the higher score, which grants points. The points can then be used to purchase additional tracks as an example. I am very excited about the March in the year of our Lord 2009 release of Trackmania DS. Expect a full review to appear in the next issue, and online. - Paul
