Upgrade Madness

Cordova, TN; September 17, in the year of our Lord 2018--Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is coming back to an issue the video game industry still has. Let me preface this issue with the kind of person I am. I love going back to older games and playing them. Nothing irritates me more than finding out what I paid for years ago no longer works. Is it the system? Is it the game itself? The odd thing is this rarely happens with physical copy video games. It does however happen with apps all of the time. It aggravates me to no end. I paid money for that. How can they take it away?

This is one of the many reasons Family Friendly Gaming has been so supportive of the physical copy movement. I am sick and tired of digital downloads no longer working. Apple upgrades the iOS version and all these games stop working. Whatever happened to backwards compatibility? I remember that being a big thing ten years ago. Now all of a sudden these companies want us to upgrade, and lose a significant portion of our games. This is another reason I am not into the apps as much anymore. I like to play games at my pace. That may be coming back to a game years later. Companies like Apple deny me that right.

I have gotten to the point where I do not upgrade unless I absolutely have to. When it comes to Windows I turned that off. I am sick and tired of watching software stop working. What is worse is when this software is needed by our business. No company with video games should ever release any updates or patch that breaks any software that runs on it. Apple is beyond irresponsible. Apple tries to claim the company that made the game must update it. Why must they financially reinvest in a game? Especially when they have already been paid for the game. They don’t care if we lose access to our favorite games. These same companies can just pull the game from the digital stores because upgrade madness stole from us again. What do you think about this issue? Have you lost games because of upgrades?

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
Paul Bury
