Youth Culture Expert Takes Issue with Planned Parenthood

Paxton, IL—With a heart for teens, young-adult fiction author, speaker and host of Teen Talk Radio, Nicole O’Dell, is hopping mad! The recent release of BloodMoney, a documentary on abortion, has exposed Planned Parenthood’s true view on abortion, and O’Dell is frustrated with the misconceptions the organization is pushing on women, specifically teenage women.

On September 23rd, Nicole interviewed David Kyle, director of BloodMoney, on her radio show, Teen Talk Radio. They discussed the details of the movie, the lies women are being told, and the truth about abortion itself and the industry as a whole. In the movie, an ex-abortion clinic employee admitted that her organization purposely gave (give) teen girls low-dose birth control and faulty condoms with the hope and expectation of pregnancy. Furthermore, they have a goal that one day, every teen girl will have 3-5 abortions. Don’t believe it? Check out the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYaTywSDmls. The podcast of O’Dell’s interview with David Kyle is available at www.choicesradio.com or on iTunes.

Believing that teens need to know the truth about abortion, Nicole will be hosting a teen panel on Teen Talk Radio, on October 21st, to discuss their reactions to the BloodMoney documentary.

One problem among churched teens arises when they find themselves in the midst of a pregnancy scare and aren’t equipped with any tools to handle it. They’ve been schooled on abstinence and maybe even birth control, but what about pregnancy? When a young Christian girl thinks she might be pregnant, the last people she wants to talk to are her parents. She just wants a way out before the judgment and before the disappointment. Enter Planned Parenthood and other institutions advocating abortion that have everything BUT the girl’s best interest at heart.

Most teens are unaware of the Christian counseling centers that will offer a free pregnancy test, Godly counsel and tangible help. Nicole actually worked as a teen counselor at one of those centers when she was young. She participated in helping teens tell their parents about their pregnancies—teens who first considered abortion. Then, Nicole later became an unmarried, pregnant client at the same center where she counseled. She’s sat on both sides of the desk as a counselor and as a pregnant teen.

Nicole has a lot to say to both parents and teens about this issue:
Who is having abortions and why?
What is Planned Parenthood and what have they, and other organizations like them, done wrong?
What are the alternatives?
Where can a teen go in the midst of a pregnancy scare?
What can parents watch out for?
What can parents do now, before it gets to the point of abortion?
What can parents do to prepare themselves and their teens so that honest communication comes easily in the midst of trying situations like a potential pregnancy?
What does the Bible say about it all?

Meet Nicole O’Dell

Nicole O’Dell is a youth culture expert, who writes and speaks to pre-teens, teens, and parents about how to prepare for life’s tough choices. She has been interviewed on dozens of radio stations as well as appeared on many blogs. She was a speaker at the Ascension Convention in Chicago in Spring 2010, which draws 2500 teens and enjoys speaking at conferences, churches and conventions.

Nicole, and her husband Wil, have six children, the most recent additions being triplets, born in August 2008. Over the years, Nicole has worked as a youth director, a Bible study leader for women and teens, a counselor at a crisis pregnancy center and was a veteran camp counselor for over a decade.

Recently, along with her six kids and the church youth group, Nicole birthed a unique teen-fiction series called Scenarios Interactive Fiction for Girls. It has been a true labor of her love—in the most literal sense. The completed manuscripts for Truth or Dare and All that Glitters, the first two books in the series, were submitted from her hospital bed as she awaited the arrival of the triplets. In April, she’ll welcome the release of the fifth and sixth books in that series.

Scenarios for Girls is designed to help tween girls learn the importance of making sound decisions. In each book, the main character arrives at a moral dilemma where the reader gets to choose! There are alternate endings based on the reader’s choice. Nicole has seen that this method gives the reader the opportunity to experience the consequences of the “wrong” choice or the rewards of the “right” one without the real-life cost. Each book also depicts forgiveness and restoration following both decisions. The contract at the end of the book gives the reader a chance to commit to her choice and encourages her to seek accountability. The prayer leads her to a commitment to God in regard to that specific decision.

Her writing also includes devotionals and Bible studies for women of all ages and she is currently contracted to write several more books as well.
