Startup Family Business Sells One Million Bandages

NASHVILLE – June 1, in the year of our Lord 2010 – Children love adhesive bandages with popular cartoon characters. In fact, billions of bandages are sold every year around the world. And now the Christian market has embraced a new type of bandage. Band Angels teach children healing Bible verses.

Nashville-area residents Tim and Tami West got a crash course in children's bandages when their 4-year-old granddaughter Riley was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes.  Riley was a fan of the colorful cartoon characters on her bandages, and this inspired West to create Band Angels with inspirational Bible verses and fun angel cartoons.  “Band Angels provide children with hope, inspiration, spirituality and reinforced scripture learning,” West said. “They are just as fun as cartoon bandages but with a higher meaning.”

Band Angels received its first batch of product in October of last year, and they have been selling with tremendous success.  This family startup company has reached the one million mark with no formal marketing or advertising.  “The success shows a real need in the Christian market – products that are cute and fun so that children will learn God’s word,” says West.  They attribute their success to the hard work of family and friends and to the loyalty of customers who learned of them through Facebook and organizations like MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and ACSI (Association of Christian Schools).

Recently BandAngels was picked up by two Christian distributors and Lifeway Christian Stores.  “It has been amazing!  Now our customers have the option of purchasing BandAngels in their local Christian bookstore or ordering directly from our website,” says West.

The company also offers them to fund-raising groups at a reduced price. “Religious groups now have a cool new product to sell to raise funds for missions, trips or other church youth group functions,” West said. “They are tired of cookie dough, magazines and all the traditional fund-raising vehicles and Band Angels gives them something new and innovative to raise funds for their group.”
