ROBLOX Brings Imagination to Life with Building Game

Redwood City, CA -- July 26, in the year of our Lord 2010 – ROBLOX, a free online building game, today announced that it has surpassed one million active monthly users on its user-generated website. The building game gives kids the ability work together to conceptualize, create and design their own utopia from scratch.

ROBLOX attracts more than the average kid gamer, as it’s a starting point for parents looking to find a common ground with their children.  It provides a great forum for users to socialize, interact and share their creative stories with other users. The site also teaches the basic principles of physics by educating users in the dynamics of construction as they build.

“Most games aimed at kids are the traditional point and shoot video games and don’t allow them to be creative,” said David Baszucki, founder and CEO of ROBLOX. “Everything on ROBLOX is generated by the player, and this gives the users a sense of ownership and pride that the traditional video game does not. ROBLOX makes building fun. The learning is accidental.”

While ROBLOX is free to play, users also have the option of purchasing different levels of membership. Known as “Builder’s Club”, users who join can create more ROBLOX levels and earn “ROBUX,” which can be used to buy in-game items.

HOW TO PLAY ROBLOX:
The ROBLOX experience begins when users create an avatar and customize their world using a comprehensive catalog of virtual items including hats, clothing, gear and collectibles. Users are given a blank canvas which they transform into an original game that is populated with people, vehicles, homes, model rockets and even well-known landmarks such as the Taj Mahal and Eiffel Tower.

Sharing a game is simple, as users can categorize them into ‘town and city,’ ‘action,’ ‘adventure,’ ‘sci-fi,’ ‘pirate,’ games and more genres, giving other users the opportunity to search each other’s games and  play in their creations.   Thousands of innovative games are created daily on ROBLOX, so users always have new games to play.

Users who want to create more than one game can purchase a subscription to Builder’s Club, which allows them to build more games for their friends to enjoy. Additionally, users have the opportunity to purchase and earn virtual currency called “ROBUX”, which they can exchange for online goods. ROBLOX allows users to participate in weekly building contests, discuss building strategy in the forums, create internal advertisements for their games and chat with other kids from around the world.

GAMEPLAY AND OVERVIEW

  • Play over one million free user created games including adventure, pirate, ninja, helicopter, medieval, and skate park games.
  • Everything within a ROBLOX game is physically simulated. For example, in a castle siege, the buildings are only damaged in places where they are actually hit.
  • Experienced users can program their games to create anything they can imagine such as working rocket ships or giant pinball machines.

ROBLOX MEMBERSHIP LEVELS

  • For monthly Builder’s Club, the cost is $5.95
  • Longer term memberships are also available with price points from $29.95- $199.95.
