The Super Mario Bros. Movie

We were so blessed to receive a retail version of The Super Mario Bros. Movie on Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Code. There has been all kinds of talk about The Super Mario Bros. Movie from a plethora of different people. Family Friendly Gaming is finally sounding off on this movie. Illumination is known for making some funny, fresh and generally family friendly animated movies. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is no exception. There will be spoilers in this review.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks great. The different kingdoms look fantastic in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The animations are wonderful and the characters look how they should. There is some cartoon violence as poor Mario is abused in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Luigi is captured and threatened by Bowser. The music in The Super Mario Bros. Movie is fabulous. A lot of great music was included in some key parts of this movie.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie does a few things that do not happen in the games. For example Rainbow Road gets blown up and there are gaping holes in it. The Mario Kart element in The Super Mario Bros. Movie is pretty cool. We almost get Luigi's Mansion in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It would have been neat to see. There are tons of Easter Eggs in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The hole in the wall from when they tried to save Brooklyn was interesting.

Peter does not like Chris Pratt and did not like his voice acting. I felt like it felt a bit weird at first, but okay later on. Jack Black does an amazing job in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. There were only a few times I could tell it was Jack Black. Luigi's voice actor is the same as Mario's - it felt weird at first but I adapted to it. Toad's voice actor is absolutely perfect. I loved Keegan-Michael Key in that role.

Bowser wanting to marry Peach is a good storyline in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. There is a ton of humor in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. I love the part when the Toad guards tell Mario that his princess is in another castle. The whole Donkey Kong kingdom was fantastic in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The Smash Bros kind of fight between Mario and Donkey Kong was great. Nintendo fanboys will love The Super Mario Bros. Movie in my opinion.

There are plenty of cool bonus features included on the discs of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. We get to know the cast, leveling up: making The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie Field Guide, "Peaches" Lyric Video, Leadership Lessons with Anya Taylor Joy, and more. Fans will want to rewatch this one hour and thirty-three minute video for all the other video game references. I wish the live action Jack Black Peaches video had been included.
