Hospital Gaming Carts, a Blessing for the Kids

Hospital Gaming

A hospital can be a quite challenging environment, even more for people who stay at the hospital for a long time. For kids, this can be quite saddening, but the Gamer's Outreach Foundation wanted to do something about it.

How did they do it? With gaming carts. A gaming cart, also known as GO Kart, is a cart specifically made to play video games. It's a movable desk with a T.V, a gaming console, video games, and controllers. For a kid, this is something that'd surely enlighten their day. And believe me, there's hardly a better thing to do to pass the time than playing video games.

This portable gaming kiosk was the result of the determination of the gaming community to make kids happier. Results went beyond unexpected. For kids who were unable to socialize during their stay, they had found something they could do and enjoyed. It was a great success.

How Do Games Help Kids With Their Struggles?

For kids, gaming can be pretty therapeutic. It is not only a way to keep them out of the scary thoughts that may arise when entering the hospital, but it's also incredible to make their stay more bearable.

As a kid, the characters from my favorite video games would become my heroes. They were a source of hope and strength, and I've learned a lot from them, their stories, and their deeds. For a kid, this can mean salvation, like it was to me. And as they play, they'll improve in different areas, too.

Fully loaded all game system might be a good gift if you learn how a gaming system can help your kid. Keep reading to find out about the benefits of gaming.

Believe Or Not, Games Can Be Beneficial, Too

Yes. Playing video games can bring benefits to a kid's development, as long as they don't neglect other areas of their life. Surprised that video games are not only a way to pass the time? If you don't believe it, I'm going to share with you in which way video games can be beneficial.

  • It enhances memory, concentration, and creativity.

With games like Minecraft, one of the favorites of the kids, you have lots of materials to use. Different materials result in many recipes to craft things, from pickaxes to mine, a shovel to dig dirt, and a sword to defend yourself. But, with enough creativity, you can go way beyond that.

And that's one of the great things about Minecraft. It tests your creativity and what you can do with the tools provided inside the game. Some people go as far as creating their minecart system to travel through their mines and caves. Others build roller coasters or big mansions with unique rooms and decorations. You can even create music inside the game using music boxes. Pretty neat, uh?

You have to memorize materials to get the most out of the game, too. With hundreds of in-game items to do different things, learning becomes an essential part of the experience. Do you want to get your hands in some TNT? Well, you'll have to hunt the right materials for it. You know you need gunpowder and sand and remember that west of your house there's a beach, and you have some gunpowder from an enemy you defeated saved up in one of your chests.

It also defies you to remain concentrated. When you are exploring, you have to pay attention to your surroundings. Did you hear water? You may find clay inside a close river! Did you hear a zombie's groan? There may be a cave nearby! Did you decide to explore such a cave? Better be attentive to possible enemies and hazards you may find!

For a kid, such a thing becomes an adventure itself, with problems they learn to solve within the game's limitations and possibilities. Isn't it great? They can be heroes, too!

Hospital Gaming
  • Improves coordination

Something important about gaming is that you need to learn how the controller works. Each game has its own uniques rules and ways to use the control to input commands. You usually have to learn the controller's pattern to be able to play correctly. When playing, you'll need to input several commands, some times, in fast successions. This enhances coordination and decision making.

  • They can be a social experience

For kids who struggle with socializing, having something in common with someone is a huge advantage to make friends. Gaming is a great way to socially engage with someone and get to know a fellow gamer as you play. You should check this post to learn more about it.

Now that you understand how kids enjoy their gaming sessions when in a hospital, and how gaming can help them, you may reconsider not buying a gaming console to your kid, or consider helping the cause!
