Social Game Tournaments Help Relieve Student Loan Debt is Now Launching across All College Campuses

SAN FRANCISCO - May 7, in the year of our Lord 2012 - Grantoo, a social gaming platform that brings college students and companies together in a socially responsible world of gaming, today announced its platform is now open to all college students with a “.edu” email address. Partnering with Grooveshark, the largest internationally available music streaming and discovery service, Grantoo is hosting a nationwide online gaming tournament, giving every student a chance to play against each other to win tuition grants and donate to charity.

Previously, Grantoo‘s tournaments were only open to a select 40 schools including Yale, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and USC. Students spend an average of 45 minutes on the platform competing in each tournament.

The Grooveshark-sponsored tournament kicks off today and lasts until May 14th. Grooveshark is donating a total of $5,000 to help college students pay their tuition bills and donate to charities including: Pencils of Promise and Engineers Without Borders. $2,000 will be awarded to the winner on May 7th and $500 to the winners each day thereafter. Because Grantoo stands by the importance of giving back, every winner pledges to donate at least 10% of their winnings to a charity of their choice.

These company-sponsored tournaments have shown just how charitable today’s college students are. Although students are asked to pledge a minimum of 10% of their winnings to charity, winners so far are donating an average of 35% to charity with one student from Berkeley donating 100% of their winnings to Partners in Health.

“Grantoo offers social gaming for good, where together we are working toward solving real-world problems. Both companies and students can actually see the impact of their sponsorship and playing time; our brand sponsors are helping students pay for college and students are donating to a charity they care about,” said Dimitri Sillam, co-founder of Grantoo.

Grantoo is also adding some new features for its all-campus launch. Students can now chat within the platform as they play in the tournaments to connect with friends and meet new people.

Any college student with a “.edu” email address can sign up to play Grantoo’s games and participate in weekly tournaments by visiting http://grantoo.org/Account/Register.
