SPORTSFRIENDS to Launch on PSN in 2013
COMPENDIUM INCLUDES CULT HIT JOHANN SEBASTIAN JOUST AND WILL BE SUPPORTED BY PLAYSTATION PUB FUND AND CROWD-SOURCED VIA KICKSTARTER
November 8, in the year of
our Lord 2012 -- Sony Computer Entertainment America
(SCEA) today introduced the latest Pub Fund venture:
SPORTSFRIENDS, a PlayStation®Network (PSN) game package
optimized for the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system. The compendium
features four highly addictive sports-themed party games
developed by some of the greatest indie minds in the industry.
Curated by renowned innovator and independent developer, Doug
Wilson of Die Gute Fabrik, SPORTSFRIENDS focuses on local
multiplayer and clever, minimalist gameplay mechanics and
design. This announcement further demonstrates PSN's strong
commitment to provide fun, high-quality game experiences that
cannot be found on any other video game platform.
In addition to the back-end financial support from Pub Fund,
SCEAs program that supports platform-defining content being
self-published by indie developers on PSN, the SPORTSFRIENDS
designers are crowdsourcing additional front-end financing
through Kickstarter, a funding platform for grassroots, creative
projects. Their goal is to create both PS3 and PC versions of
their games that encourage hyper-local, collaborative gameplay.
Financial backers that pledge $15 or more will receive copies of
the game upon release.
SPORTSFRIENDS will contain expanded, improved versions of each
of the four award-winning, internationally celebrated games.
· Johann Sebastian Joust, a no-graphics,
PlayStation®Move-enabled, physical- dueling game set to the
tempo of J.S. Bachs Brandenburg Concertos. Produced by Doug
Wilson.
· BaraBariBall, a fast-paced two-to-four player competitive
sports/fighting game where a teams mission is to dunk a ball
into the opposing teams goal. Produced by Noah Sasso.
· Hokra, a soccer-inspired four-player game where teams of
twomust maneuver a ball into their respective goals.. Produced
by Ramiro Corbetta.
· Super Pole Riders, a hilarious competitive pole-vaulting polo
game for two to four players. Produced by Bennett Foddy.
