International Games Day at your library November 3rd

Libraries Got Game

CHICAGO October 16, in the year of our Lord 2012 -- Hundreds of libraries across the country and around the world including Australia, Japan, the Philippines and the United Kingdom, will join the American Library Association (ALA) in celebrating the popularity and educational value of video and board games during International Games Day @ your library on Nov. 3, 2012.

As games have evolved over the years to become more dynamic requiring more interaction and socialization amongst players so have libraries, by re-energizing themselves as community learning centers. Libraries still provide traditional services, but continue to change in dynamics by offering new formats like video games and programs like family gaming nights.

In 2011, nearly 28,000 people of all ages participated in gaming events at more than 760 libraries in the U.S. and 21 international libraries in 14 countries.

During International Games Day, libraries of all types will participate in two national video game tournaments featuring the games Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart time trials. For more information on gaming events taking place in your community, please contact your local library or visit the map of participating libraries at http://bit.ly/igd12map.

The American Library Association is the oldest and largest library association in the world, with approximately 60,000 members. Its mission is to promote the highest quality library and information services and public access to information.
