Bloo Kid 2

Long time readers in Family Friendly Gaming may feel that Bloo Kid 2 sounds familiar. It should. Back in 2015 Luke reviewed Bloo Kid 2 on the Nintendo 3DS. That game had been ported over from the app world. Bloo Kid 2 is now on the Nintendo Switch. Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code for Bloo Kid 2 on the Nintendo Switch. I am not aware of any physical copy versions of this game on this system in the United States at this time.

Bloo Kid 2 is an action adventure 2D side scrolling video game where we can collect a variety of things. We can collect all of the yellow stars, blue stars, beat the enemies, collect a balloon, and beat the timer. Players can shoot for one or more of those when they play each level. I was able to progress without doing any of them as well. Bloo Kid 2 is only 149 megs in terms of memory size.

Bloo Kid 2 borrows heavily from a variety of other video game franchises from the past. We play in Green Hills, fight a Kirby like tree boss, and much of the game reminds me of Alex Kidd. We have a double jump and bop enemies on the head to make them go away. Certain levels in Bloo Kid 2 remind me of Super Mario Bros levels as well. I don’t mind a video game paying homage to past well known franchises. Do you?

The enemies in Bloo Kid 2 go on a set path. They can do things like jump up to the next platform which can be a bit bothersome. Having only three hearts is a real problem in Bloo Kid 2. We can open treasure chests for more hearts and they stay on the ground if we need to come back for them. Technically we can take four hits in Bloo Kid 2. All three hearts go away and we are still alive until we take one more hit. Or we can finish the level and feel like we are total clutch. If you yearn for action adventure 2D side scrollers from the past then you might like Bloo Kid 2.
