Parental Guidance on DVD was sitting in my
pile for years. I had seen this movie before but never reviewed it. So I
found time on a movie night to pick Parental Guidance. This movie is
absolutely hilarious. It is headlined by Billy Crystal, Bette Midler,
Marisa Tomei, and Tom Everett Scott. Generational parenting is covered
in Parental Guidance. There will be more on that later.
The grandparents are called in to watch the kids while the parents go
off on a trip for the father's work. Parental Guidance exposes the
stupidity of the liberal concepts on raising children. A great example
is a baseball game where no one strikes out, and all of the games end in
a tie. The grandfather Artie exposes how out of touch with reality that
concept it. Parental Guidance also exposes how boring that is.
Parental Guidance goes right up to the line of spanking a child. Sadly
Parental Guidance does not allow the grandparent to actually spank the
child. In my opinion a spanking for such a misbehaving child was
warranted, and needed. Parental Guidance also shows how Artie's way of
doing things is better and brings the family together. Artie does have
his flaws in Parental Guidance. The whole half pipe scene is a great
example.
Parental Guidance has some humorous moments that could offend a few
people. There is plenty of chaos in Parental Guidance as the kids and
grandparents play kick the can in the back yard. There are romantic
moments with the parents in the bedroom. The kids get sugar for the
first time and find out what that really feels like. They find out the
parents lied to them. There are other instances where characters in
Parental Guidance are not forthcoming with information. There is also a
scene where women are exercising on poles.
We laughed until we almost cried watching Parental Guidance. It is rare
that Hollywood allows a movie that exposes how clueless their teachings
really are. That is what I appreciate the most about Parental Guidance.
Billy Crystal has plenty of funny moments in Parental Guidance. Each of
the kids has their own issue. Those issues are dealt with in Parental
Guidance by the grandparents.
