The Smurfs 2

The Nintendo DS version of The Smurfs 2 is part digital children's book, and part mini game compilation. Children can also unlock different figures of Smurf characters and look at their collection. That collection is a really neat idea. Too bad they are not in real life where they can be touched.

The Smurfs 2 has nine mini games that children can enjoy. If the child is good at a mini game they can unlock a Smurf figurine. The Smurfs 2 presents the child with three of them. They are hidden under barrels, the barrels go around, and the child picks one of the three. Paying attention to the one you want is important. Otherwise your odds are 33%.

The book element in The Smurfs 2 is really neat. The Nintendo DS is held sideways. Okay maybe I forgot to mention that part earlier. We hold the Nintendo DS sideways to play all aspects of The Smurfs 2. Anyways the book is really neat to read.

What about children who can not read? What does The Smurfs 2 do for them? Thankfully this Nintendo DS cartridge will read the book to the child. A line will go along with the word being read. So The Smurfs 2 is also part educational. Children can learn or improve their reading skills thanks to this Ubisoft hand held title.

The Smurfs 2 does have some magic elements into it. Gargamel is a wizard who uses magic, and tries to steal the essence of the Smurfs. He also uses devious means to acquire his goals. In other words he is the bad guy. Not to spoil too much, but the good guys prevail. I expect you already knew that whether you have seen the movie or not.

I like the direction Ubisoft took with The Smurfs 2 on the Nintendo DS. It is not as good looking as the home console version, nor does it have all the music. It does have charm, and some educational value. It was an honor and a pleasure for me to play and review The Smurfs 2 on the DS.
