One of the trends our E3 2012 team noticed
was controllers for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad (many also worked
on Android). Plenty of companies promised they would send Family
Friendly Gaming reviewable units of these controllers. Guess who came in
first place? GameLoft. Want to know something that makes it even more
special? We did not see them at E3 2012, and they did not promise to
send us a reviewable unit. Others may have given us lip service, but
GameLoft came through in the end.
The Duo Gamer is a neat little controller. It also comes with a neat
little stand. Bear in mind if you have a case on your device the stand
will not work. The stand will also remind you whose product you are
using. The Duo Gamer controller has a company logo as well, but in an
area most players will not notice while playing.
The Duo Gamer controller is black with blue and grey buttons. The blue
tooth power button shines like a star right in the middle. Be sure you
turn off the blue tooth on your device or completely turn it off.
Otherwise the Duo Gamer will drain the battery. An off button for the
controller would have been nice.
Currently the Duo Gamer only works with a handful of games. I expect
GameLoft to release more in the coming weeks and months. The interaction
with the games is absolutely fantastic. I love using a controller with
these games on the iPad. It feels so natural, and in my opinion gives a
better gaming experience.
The Duo Gamer has a good weight to it. It is larger than my iPod Touch.
So using it on that device feels a bit odd. It feels right on the iPad
in my opinion. The felt case for it can help protect it when it is not
being used. The Duo Gamer is a sturdy controller that should last a few
years.
All in all Duo Gamer is a neat controller that will enhance the gaming
experience on the iOS platform. I am very thankful that Family Friendly
Gaming was provided a copy of the Duo Gamer for this review.
