I had a lesson in patience recently as I spent 11 hours in line waiting on the release of the Nintendo Wii. Wrap your mind around how long 11 hours is. That is longer than most work days, longer than most people sleep in a night, and almost as long as most people are awake in a day. Eleven hours is a long time to sit around, and wait on anything, especially a video game system. I have never waited in line for a video game system every before. Being a member of the media, I normally get them from the companies directly. I needed a lesson in patience, and this certainly was one.

Thankfully I picked a store that let people wait inside, go buy stuff from their store, and go to the bathroom. For those not sure what kind of store that is - it was a 24 hour Wal-mart (yeah I will give them a free plug). This store also allowed us to use their lawn chairs to sit on while we waited. This was so much better than having to wait outside, as so many other stores were doing. Wal-mart also let us purchase our Wii's starting at 12:01am on November 19, in the year of our Lord 2006. Certain other retailers made the individuals wait until 8am, which is that stores normal time to open.

One of the coolest things about being in line waiting for the Nintendo Wii was meeting some wonderful, and friendly people. There was the lady who was there with her three kids, the gentleman who works at that store (and his girlfriend loved him enough to hold his place for hours), the gentleman who is a DJ for a local radio station, the fellow gamers, the hunter who was doing this for his kids, etc. I found so many awesome stories, and an amazingly family friendly environment. There were plenty of sessions of those playing together on the Nintendo DS. Friends, wives, and other family members came by to encourage, and bring items for those of us that were waiting.

There was a lady that brought Hot Cocoa for everyone. Plenty of video games, food, and other items were shared. The entire atmosphere was festive, and fun. I for one want to send a shout out to the 19 others who got a Nintendo Wii so early on that morning. Thank all ya'll so much for making that night a memorable one indeed. I hope you have been enjoying your Nintendo Wii as much as me, and my entire family.
